The most commonly used method is correction with eyeglasses.
Except for the fact that a person with a refractive error needs eyeglasses
for focused vision, no significant disadvantages are noted when glasses
are used to correct mild to moderate refractive errors
Contact lenses
Also provide good visual correction for refractive errors and are tolerated
by most people. The use of soft contact lenses, especially if not properly
taken care of, may result in corneal infection or a growth of blood
vessles in the cornea. However, these side effects occur very infrequently
In addition to these proven methods for the correction of refractive
errors, there are several surgical procedures which can significantly
reduce or eleminate refractive errors. The oldest method is the Photorefractive
Keratectomy (PRK) with an Excimer Laser. Today, the method of choice
to correct approx. 90% of refractive errors is the Laser
in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK).
