A new laser procedure for presbyopia correction


The INTRACOR® procedure uses a femotsecond laser to correct presbyopia without any corneal incision.

INTRACOR® is a promising treatment option for presbyopic patients with normal distance vision or mild farsightedness (+0,5 to +1,0 dpt).


How does INTRACOR® work?

The INTRACOR® procedure is an intrastromal femtosecond laser ablation where the laser beam is focused into the middle of the stroma and consecutive rings are formed without cutting or dissecting the corneal epithelium or the Bowman membrane. These intrastromal ring cuts lead to a change in corneal refraction.



Typical course of surgery and postoperative recovery

Presbyopia correction with INTRACOR® lasts approximately 20 seconds. During the procedure, gas bubbles form in the cornea, and the patient's vision is blurred for 2 to 3 hours. When the bubbles dissolve, the cornea clears and the distance visual acuity returns. After that, the patient can immediately notice the change in near visual acuity. On the first day after sugery, most patients experience a gain in near visual acuity.

INTRACOR® is a quick, minimally invasive procedure which provides fast corneal recovery.

INTRACOR®'s biggest advantage is that - in comparison to conventional laser procedures such as LASIK, Femto-LASIK or iLASIK - no corneal incision (flap) is required. INTRACOR® maintains the structural integrity of the cornea which promotes wound healing and reduces the risk of infection to virtually zero.
