Patients are very satisfied with Artisan implants

LASIK surgery is not suitable for patients with extreme myopia. For such cases, implants of an Artisan lens offers a safe and predictable alternative.

The Artisan lens, consisting of PMMA synthetic material, is implanted into the anterior chamber of the eye and attached to the iris. It is now located between the cornea and the natural lens and is very compatible. Various studies have shown, that even with extreme myopia excellent results can be achieved with this procedure.

Campos et. al implanted Artisan lenses in 45 shortsighted eyes (-12.0 to 34.0 diopters). During this year’s ESCRS* Congress, they reported that 60% of the eyes reached ± 0.5 diopters, and 70% of the eyes ± 1.0 diopters postoperatively. 94% of the operated eyes were in the area of ± 2.0 diopters. Since the reduced effect of strong prescription glasses, and the modification of the visual field are eliminated after surgery, the results – even with a slight residual visual disorder – are a tremendous improvement for the patient with extreme myopia(1).

An additional study confirmed the general postoperative satisfaction following Artisan lens implants(2). 98% of the polled patients were very satisfied with their quality of vision after the procedure, and would again make the decision to go ahead with the surgery. There were some reservations about the quality of vision at dusk and dawn, sometimes causing halos and glare.
